How it works

From song to rhythm tab

An MP3 is dropped in, the bass, lead guitar and rhythm guitar parts are written out as tab beside the audio, and the lead part then plays on NoteNav's note highway.

Rhythm, apart from lead

The part that carries the song

Rhythm guitar gets its own tab, so the chords and riffs aren't buried under fills and solos. The lead line and bass are built from the same upload.

The chords and riffs underneath: the part that carries the song, kept apart from the lead so neither clutters the other.

Bass

4 strings

The low end on its own staff: four strings, tuned the way you play, with the line written out note for note.

Melodies, fills and solos: the single-note line that sits on top of the mix, with the fret positions to play it.

Why it matters

Riffs and chords, written the way you'd play them

Most of a song is rhythm guitar: the riff in the verse, the chords in the chorus. When lead and rhythm share one tab, the part you'd actually play for three minutes gets lost.

NoteNav writes the rhythm part as six-string tab in the tuning and capo you set, and the note highway names each chord as it comes up.

Getting a better rhythm tab

  • Set the capo before building. NoteNav can suggest one from the title and artist.
  • Start from the clearest recording you have. The cleaner the source, the cleaner the chords.
  • Play through the free preview with the song before you build the rest.
  • Riffs and chords

The rhythm part is written as string and fret numbers, with chords stacked the way you'd fret them.

  • Capo suggestions

Enter the title and artist and NoteNav suggests a tuning and capo for the rhythm part. You can change either.

  • Chord names on the highway

The note highway names chords as they scroll in, so you see the shape and the name together.

  • With the real recording

Play along with the song itself in the tab player, at 0.75×, 1× or 1.25×.

FAQ

Rhythm guitar questions

More answers on the FAQ page, or email [email protected].

How accurate are the tabs?

Accurate enough to play straight from. NoteNav writes every part note for note, in playable positions for your tuning and capo, and the tab follows the original recording so you can hear each bar against what you're reading. The first 90 seconds of every song are free, so try it on a song you know and compare it with anything else you've tried.

Can NoteNav transcribe rhythm guitar?

Yes. Rhythm guitar is one of the three parts every upload can produce, alongside lead guitar and bass.

Does it show chord names?

The note highway labels chords as they scroll in. The tab itself shows the strings and frets.

Does it work with a capo?

Yes. Set a capo from 1 to 12 on the rhythm part before building, or use the one NoteNav suggests from the song's title and artist.

Which tunings can I use?

36 presets, including E Standard, Drop D, Eb Standard, D Standard, Open G, Open D and DADGAD.

Can I export the rhythm part to Guitar Pro?

Yes. It is its own track in the Guitar Pro 7 export.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. Every new track starts with a free preview of the first 90 seconds, tabbed and playable against the recording. A full song costs 10 credits.
