Audio to Guitar Pro converter

Convert an MP3
to a Guitar Pro file

Guitar Pro can't turn audio into tab, so NoteNav does the transcription. Upload a recording, check the tabs, and export a Guitar Pro 7 file with bass, lead and rhythm guitar as separate tracks.

How it works

From MP3 to .gp

An MP3 is dropped in, the bass, lead guitar and rhythm guitar parts are written out as tab beside the audio, and the lead part then plays on NoteNav's note highway.

What's in the file

One file, one track per part

The export holds every part NoteNav built: Bass, Lead Guitar and Rhythm Guitar, each as its own track, with the capo you set on the guitars.

Bass

4 strings
GDAE55753353

The low end on its own staff: four strings, tuned the way you play, with the line written out note for note.

Audio to bass tabs

Lead Guitar

6 strings
eBGDAE57585885

Melodies, fills and solos: the single-note line that sits on top of the mix, with the fret positions to play it.

Guitar solos to tabs

Rhythm Guitar

6 strings
eBGDAE5757575735353535

The chords and riffs underneath: the part that carries the song, kept apart from the lead so neither clutters the other.

Why a .gp file

Edit, print and practice in the tools you already use

Guitar Pro is the format most tab editors and players understand. Once the transcription is in a .gp file you can fix a note, add fingerings, print it, or loop a section in Guitar Pro itself.

NoteNav exports Guitar Pro 7 files (.gp), which open in Guitar Pro 7 and later.

Before you export

  • Set the tuning and capo for each part before building, so the frets in the file are right.
  • Listen through the preview with the recording. It's quicker to spot a problem there than in an editor.
  • Upload a lossless file if you have one. The transcription starts from the audio you give it.
  • Separate tracks

Bass, Lead Guitar and Rhythm Guitar arrive as three tracks, so you can mute, solo or edit each one.

  • Capo included

The capo you set on each guitar part travels with the file.

  • The preview exports too

Export the free 90-second preview to check the file before you build the full song.

  • Checked against the recording

Before you export, play the tab along with the original recording to hear whether it matches.

FAQ

Guitar Pro export questions

More answers on the FAQ page, or email [email protected].

How accurate are the tabs?

Accurate enough to play straight from. NoteNav writes every part note for note, in playable positions for your tuning and capo, and the tab follows the original recording so you can hear each bar against what you're reading. The first 90 seconds of every song are free, so try it on a song you know and compare it with anything else you've tried.

Can Guitar Pro convert an MP3 to tab by itself?

No. Guitar Pro can't turn an audio file into notation, so you need a transcription first. NoteNav does that step and gives you a .gp file.

Which Guitar Pro version do I need?

The export is a Guitar Pro 7 file (.gp). Guitar Pro 7 and later open it.

Can I export the free preview?

Yes. The preview exports like a full build and covers the first 90 seconds.

Does the file include every instrument?

It includes every part NoteNav built, up to three: bass, lead guitar and rhythm guitar. Drums, keys and vocals aren't transcribed.

Can I get MIDI, PDF or MusicXML?

Not directly from NoteNav. Open the .gp file in Guitar Pro and export it from there as MIDI, PDF or MusicXML.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. Every new track starts with a free preview of the first 90 seconds, tabbed and playable against the recording. A full song costs 10 credits.
